Monochrome nail art, despite lacking intricate embellishments and complex procedures, presents a challenge to nail technicians due to its popularity in meeting diverse customer demands. Achieving flawlessness in monochrome nail art, devoid of issues like gel overflow, accumulation, surface irregularities, lack of glossiness, incomplete or uneven nails, prominent brush strokes, or easy chipping, demands meticulousness. This comprehensive guide will equip you with solutions, ensuring client satisfaction and fostering repeat business.

  • Step One: Initial Nail Preparation

Before beautifying the nails, it’s essential to undertake an initial preparation of the client’s nails. Given the uniqueness of each client’s nails, the first step involves cleaning and buffing them. To ensure a smooth transition for the second step of adjusting the nail shape, special attention needs to be paid to the nail’s rear and the cuticles around the nail. Smoothing out any rough edges or cuticles is crucial to avoid any adverse effects on subsequent steps. So we need to smooth it out.

  • Step Two: Nail Shape Adjustment

Each customer has unique preferences regarding their nail shape. Here, we’ll use an oval shape as an example to illustrate the process. While buffing the nails, start by adjusting the length. Then, gently pinch both sides of the client’s nail to expose it fully for better shape adjustments.

Professional Advice:

To prevent the accumulation of nail polish gel on both sides, ensure that both sides of the nail are lightly and evenly buffed.
When adjusting the nail shape, avoid excessive buffing on one side. Instead, consider and slightly adjust the entire nail surface. Over-buffing one side or specific areas can lead to an imbalanced nail shape or leaning.
For clients with finger deformities, it’s essential to use the midlines of the first and second finger joints as a reference for a straight extension, ensuring the nail shape remains unaffected.

  • Step Three: Nail Surface Buffing

When handling client nails, we typically use a 100-grit sponge buffer for polishing. To avoid accidentally injuring the skin at the base of the customer’s nails and causing discomfort, we take specific precautions during surface buffing. Firstly, after the initial buffing of the rear edge, we ensure the skin is not trimmed, maintaining its smoothness. Secondly, when buffing the base of the nail, the nail technician should hold the area with their finger and use an upward buffing motion. This approach prevents discomfort for the client while ensuring an effective buffing process. Finally, the entire nail surface should be buffed to a matte finish while ensuring it remains smooth.

  • Step Four: Edge Handling

Careful Dead Skin Buffing on the Edge
When dealing with dead skin on the edges, it’s crucial to use a buffing stick to smooth out the dead skin to prevent the accumulation of nail polish gel due to an uneven surface.
Next, using a nail grinder set to 18 to 20 rotations per minute, gently push up the smoothed dead skin. During this process, pay attention to the force and direction, applying force toward the skin to avoid creating grooves by pushing downward.
Additionally, for a natural blend between the edges and both sides, a slight buffing can be done on both sides.
When trimming dead skin, strictly follow the initial trimming line until all buffed dead skin is removed to prevent the formation of abrupt protrusions.
If there are localized uneven areas during the process, utilize the small ball-shaped head of the nail grinder for secondary buffing to achieve a smooth effect.
For areas where the skin on both sides of the finger is harder, it’s advisable to apply treatment liquid before buffing to ensure overall smoothness after complete drying.

  • Step Five: Skin Treatment Around the Nails

During nail treatment, the first step involves spraying treatment liquid, allowing it to dry before buffing. To ensure effective buffing, we recommend using an electric nail buffer set at a speed of 18 rotations. Throughout the buffing process, attention should not only be on the nails but also on the skin surrounding them. Extensive areas of skin require smoothing, removing dry patches and any rough skin. Continuous practice of this step is essential for nail technicians, ensuring the client’s comfort throughout the process and avoiding any discomfort.

  • Step Six: Base Gel Application

Before applying the base gel, it’s advisable to use a balancing solution to control oil, moisture, and provide antibacterial effects. Next, apply an anti-lifting solution without the need for curing under a lamp. When applying the base gel, pay attention to the quantity, ensuring the right amount on the brush and avoiding application onto the skin, maintaining a hairline distance from the nail’s edge. It’s crucial that the base gel’s thickness remains moderate, avoiding excessive thickness.

  • Step Seven: Building

When encountering uneven surfaces after applying the base gel on the nails, we recommend using a building base gel for correction. During application, start with a small amount, evenly spreading it thinly across the nail surface. For exceptionally flat nails, it might be necessary to slightly increase the amount for a smooth effect.

  • Step Eight: Applying Color

Before applying color, it’s essential to clean the nail surface thoroughly. To ensure evenness and durability of the gel color, follow the principle of applying small amounts multiple times. The first brushstroke should begin towards the middle and slightly back of the nail, then gently push the brush toward the nail’s back end, avoiding direct brushing from the root. Maintain strict control over the area covered by the gel color, ensuring it doesn’t exceed the base gel’s boundaries.

When applying to the sides, press the brush against the nail’s base and side, applying slow pressure downward to ensure a smooth application. After completing the gel color application on the entire nail, lightly stroke the brush over the nail surface for an even, brushstroke-free finish.

For edge adjustments, use an ultra-fine brush and apply a small amount of gel color for precise touch-ups. With meticulous handling, you can ensure seamless edge integration and overall harmonious uniformity.

  • Step Nine: Top Coat

A crucial step in achieving flawless solid color nails is applying a sealing layer and curing it under a lamp for 1 to 2 minutes. Afterward, allow adequate cooling before checking for smoothness with a gentle touch. By following these steps, you’ll create a flawless solid color nail effect.

To achieve perfect solid color nails, ensure the nail surface is smooth and clean, selecting the nail gel color according to personal preferences. Maintain attention to detail and ensure uniformity during application to ensure the gel color evenly covers the nail surface.
